Long-Term Fund Allocation Plan 2018

Trigger 1- "The Conversations"
My recent conversations with my friends during reservist (here) triggered me to want to figure how i allocate my funds based beyond personal competencies.

Trigger 2- "Savings account"
Beyond a certain amount of money, there is no need to have too much cash sitting around, unless there are specific reasons (such as funding overseas education). My recent exercise to optimize the interest from my savings (see here), made me realized I that my focus on trading (long-only) has left me with a situation of having too much liquidity when the market started trading sideway/bearish!

Trigger 3 - "Compiling made me realised"
I did a compilation(HERE) of all the non-weekly transactions & non-weekly stock scans, and realised besides the occasional sharing of stories/encounters, i haven't reviewed my strategy & tactics for the year 2018. So need to take out the junky stuff, and add on the good stuff for reinforcement!

Mix-up over the past 2 years
I have interchangeably mixed my "tactics" with "strategy", this should be better categorised.
  • Strategy. Broader context, the thinking behind why i do something.
Long-Term Funds Allocation Plan 2018

Personal requirements.
  • Immediate (now). nothing for now.
  • Mid term (2-3years). HDB, certain + set up family, uncertain
  • Aspiration (beyond 10 years). own a farm lease. have enough to cover annual expenses without working
Strategies/Assets/Instrument available and allocations based on different criteria

Finalized. After talking to close friends, I narrowed considerations down to two (risk level and time frame). Keeping in mind resources required (cash & attention) as side considerations . Did up a quadrant to help my decision-making, i further added rules too!

  • Spreading out attention required across the allocations: (low-intense monitoring: okay;  med- med monitoring: okay; intense-intense monitoring: not okay; low-low monitoring: not okay)  basically an optimized usage of attention for good outcomes.
  • Prioritize those with fixed quantum of cash above those with varying quantum.
